Emerging director and choreographer Kevin O’Connor, a graduate of the prestigious National Circus School of Montreal (started by Cirque de Soliel), presents a new multi-medium aerial dance work called The Sunlight Zone. This piece will be in collaboration with two world renowned aerialist acrobats Terry Crane and Jukka Jutti, dancer Ana Flecha, Montreal soundscape artist Mitch Akiyama, jazz singer Jesse Ross and video artist Fabio Flecha.

The Sunlight Zone is a multi-arts show examining the relationship between the watershed we live in and our ecological footprint impacting it. The piece will combine elements of circus arts, dance, video projection, a music soundscape and voice. According to Maude Barlow (senior advisor on water issues to the United Nations), a global shortage of water is looming as the most threatening ecological, economic, and political crisis of the twenty-first century. Humanity is polluting, diverting, and depleting the wellspring of life at a startling rate. This project will bring attention to the hydrologic web, with water being the life-giving connecting thread. This piece will tour to New York City and to Toronto, Canada.

Kevin O’Connor won the prestigious multi-art grant from the Canadian Arts Council to produce The Sunlight Zone. O’Connor currently works for Bessie award winning choreographer Noemie Lafrance in New York City and is part of a dance tour on the walls of Frank Gehry buildings worldwide. O’Connor started his own experimental arts company called Tipping Point Productions in 2008. Drawing upon his degree in Environment Science and his professional studies in acrobatics, dance and martial arts, his mission is to produce innovative performances and site-specific installations that fuse these elements together. His vision is to create visually compelling pieces that strengthen the link between our community and local environment. For more information please check www.kevinoconnor.ca
