Artist Talk with Tauna Coulson
November 9, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Join artist Tauna Coulson as she talks about her new installation in Abbott Square and SCRAP – Santa Cruz Recycled Art Program.
About SCRAP: The Santa Cruz Recycled Art Program (SCRAP) offers selected artists access to the waste stream at the City’s Resource Recovery Facility on Dimeo Lane with the mission of highlighting our growing landfill problem and culture of waste. The City has a goal of 75% waste diversion goal by 2020 and SCRAP is just one way the City is encouraging people to think differently about their own trash.
This talk is FREE.
About Tauna Coulson: “My first memories of making art was as a third grader, waiting at the dentists office. I’d be bored, I’d draw. I never stopped drawing but I added all sorts of other creative outlets; sewing, painting, ceramics, jewelry making
I began mostly flat, collage like and evolved from there over the past 20 years. I now put a lot of texture and materials to the mix and do some sculpture as well as wall art. Most my materials are found, salvaged or donated, it’s a kind of code I have in creating. I feel that if I was to purchase a bunch of beautiful things only to put them together differently it would be like cheating, taking all the challenge out of the game.”
