Benevolent Neglect Tasting

May 18 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

We are thrilled to welcome winemaker Matthew Nagy of Benevolent Neglect wines to Soif! Benevolent Neglect is the product of two winemaking friends, Matthew Nagy and Ben Brenner. Matt and Ben make small-production, minimal intervention wines using grapes sourced from several sustainably farmed vineyards in Northern California.

A little bit about Matt (in his own words): “I fell into the wine industry, like a lot of other, by chance. I went to school at the University of South Carolina where I first discovered wine and then took a roundabout way to the Napa Valley, working harvests in New York, New Zealand, and Washington. I got looped in after that with Thomas Rivers Brown, and it was with him that I began truly learning the craft. Benevolent Neglect was started during that time with only 61 cases, and we’ve grown forward from there. I’m now helping Steve Matthiasson with his new winery, and doing various consulting things that allow me to focus on growing our label.”

We will be pouring the following Benevolent Neglect wines*:

2018 Benevolent Neglect Rosé (Mourvèdre/Carignan) – Mendocino, California

2017 Benevolent Neglect Riesling – Carneros, California

2016 Benevolent Neglect Whole Cluster Syrah – Mendocino, California

*wines may be subject to change, depending on availability

The tasting will begin promptly at 2:00pm Saturday, May 18th, in the Soif restaurant. Cost of admission is $15 for the general public, and free for Soif wine club members. Tickets may be purchased online, or at the event.
