Grant Faulkner & Lise Quintana Book Talk: Pep Talks for Writers

Bookshop Santa Cruz presents Grant Faulkner for a book discussion and signing of his new book, PEP TALK FOR WRITERS: 52 Insights and Actions to Boost Your Creative Mojo. Faulkner will be in conversation with Lise Quintana, a Santa Cruz writer/publisher/superhero, who is a longtime NaNoWriMo writer and volunteer.
Faulkner has written Pep Talks for Writers, a guide to keeping motivated, creative, and productive through 52 insights and actions that can overcome writer’s block, banish boredom, and revitalize creativity. This handsome handbook gathers a wide range of observations and advice for writers (and creators in general) at any stage of one’s career. Addressing challenges such as starting a new project, going deeper and taking bigger risks, nourishing your muse, conquering creative doubts, leveraging your creative community, and exploring storytelling skills, this guide belongs alongside well-worn references like the dictionary. Whether writing a debut novel, screenplay, memoir, or business plan, Pep Talks for Writers provides motivation, encouragement, and helpful exercises for writers of all stripes.
Grant Faulkner is the executive director of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and the cofounder of 100 Word Story. His stories have appeared in dozens of literary magazines, including Tin House, the Southwest Review, and the Gettysburgh Review. His essays on creativity have been published in the New York Times, Poets & Writers Magazine, Writer’s Digest, and The Writer. He recently published a book of essays on creativity, Pep Talks for Writers: 52 Insights and Actions to Boost Your Creative Mojo. He’s also published a collection of one hundred 100-word stories, Fissures, two of which are included in The Best Small Fictions 2016.
