FONCA Artists’ Collective Present: Mexico through the Arts, at the MAH

December 10, 2015 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

This is a cultural soiree organized by the Consulate General of Mexico to know more about Mexican culture through the arts! Artists from 5 different disciplines: architecture, graphic design, cinematography and music will present the link between their artistic discipline and Mexican identity.

How has music created Mexican identities? Did you know that Mexico is a world power in religious architecture? Have you heard indigenous music transformed into electronic sounds? These are some of the topics that we will discuss during the event.

Maria Ines Canto (UC Santa Barbara), will present a general panorama of Mexican cultural history.
Our designer, Salomon Duarte (Academy of Art San Francisco), will offer a drawing workshop.
Marina Laborde, Archictect (California College of the Arts), will explain her research on Religious Architecture.
Pablo Rubio (UC Santa Cruz), our musician, will discuss Music and Mexican Identinty, while presenting an acusmatic work with indigenous roots.
Jordi Funtanet (Academy of Art San Francisco) will present part of the history of cinema in Mexico.
Daniel Chavez (Stanford University), will present short films.

Create. Learn. Interact with different cultures. Enjoy!
