Poetry Santa Cruz presents Troy Jollimore and Maggie Paul at Bookshop Santa Cruz

Poetry Santa Cruz is dedicated to nurturing the poetry community and bringing poetry to the larger community in Santa Cruz County. They generally hold monthly meetings at Bookshop Santa Cruz on the second Tuesday of the month. The suggested donation is $3. Please go to the Poetry Santa Cruz website for more information.

Troy Jollimore was born in Liverpool, Nova Scotia and attended the University of King’s College in Halifax, Nova Scotia, but has lived in the United States since 1993. He earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Princeton University in 1999 and is currently Professor of Philosophy at California State University, Chico. Jollimore’s poems have appeared in publications including The New Yorker, The Believer, McSweeney’s, and Poetry. His first collection of poetry, Tom Thomson in Purgatory, won the National Book Critics Circle award for poetry in 2006. It was also nominated for the 2007 Poets’ Prize, and individual poems in the collection received nominations for the Pushcart Prize. His second collection, At Lake Scugog, appeared in the Princeton Series of Contemporary Poets in 2011. He also has published three books on philosophical matters and is a frequent book reviewer, writing for the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Boston Globe, and the Boston Review, among others.See the page for Troy Jollimore on The Poetry Foundation website.

Maggie Paul is the author of Borrowed World, a collection of poems published by Hummingbird Press, and the chapbook, Stones from the Basket of Others (Black Dirt Press). Her work has appeared in several literary journals, including Rattle, Poetry Miscellany, the Drexel University Journal, Porter Gulch Review, and phren-Z. She earned an MA at Tufts University and her MFA at Vermont College. Currently Maggie teaches writing at Cabrillo College and works as an educational consultant, mentoring students through the college application process. She lives in Santa Cruz.
