Transportation Planning

Managing the various transportation needs of Downtown can be one of the most difficult task of urban planning. In order for a Downtown to be successful, people must be able to get in, out and around it easily.

The good news is that today there are many more options and solutions to transportation challenges than there were even 5 or 10 years ago.

  • Parking – Even as we develop and encourage more mobility alternatives to the single user car, the necessity for adequate accessible parking can not be overlooked. As Downtown sees in increase of office workers and residents and new and existing cultural and entertainment facilities become more popular, we need to understand how to provide sufficient parking, but also how to be most efficient with our parking.
  • Bicycling – With Programs in over 700 cities in 50 plus countries, BIke Share programs are the fastest growing transportation system in the history of the world. How can Downtown support increased bicycle use?
  • Public Transit – It is understood that people will generally use whatever system of transportation is most convenient for them. Despite increases in parking costs and decreases in parking availability, many people continue to drive their cars into downtown every day. What will it take for public transportation to feel more convenient than driving?
