Senderos Vive Oaxaca Guelaguetza Festival

Spend the day in Oaxaca! Senderos invites you to the 14th Annual Vive Oaxaca Guelaguetza on Sunday, May 19 from 9AM-5Pm in San Lorenzo Park near downtown Santa Cruz – an authentic food, music, dance, crafts cultural festival like those held annually in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Over 15 vendors will be selling delicious Oaxacan food and beverages – mole, tlayudas, tejate and more and artesenias will be selling colorful crafts and clothing from Oaxaca. The marketplace opens at 9AM.
The formal program begins with the convite/procession at 11AM. Folkloric dancing representing the eight regions of Oaxaca will be presented by Senderos Centeotl Danza y Baile, accompanied by Senderos Ensamble Musical and visiting student musicians from CIS No 8 (Centro de Integración Social), Zoogocho, Oaxaca, renowned for their traditional banda de viento (wind band) music.
Bring a blanket, lawn chairs to enjoy this colorful, joyous festival.
$10 general admission at the entrance, free for children 5 and under.
This event is the major fundraiser for Senderos, a volunteer-based nonprofit in Santa Cruz providing free after-school dance and music classes, tutoring and scholarships for Latinx youth.
Guelaguetza is a Zapotec word meaning “a commitment to sharing and cooperation.”
